About the List of Ivy League Colleges

The list of Ivy League Colleges officially refers to the eight member-institutions. However, it can also refer to the list of colleges that have high standards of academic excellence. Officially speaking, the term was only formally used in 1954 to refer to the athletic conference formed by the eight universities. However, the athletic tradition of some of these universities dates back more than a century.

Today, the term is not anymore limited to athletics or sports but also equally applicable to academics and the education philosophy of the oldest schools in the United States of America. Hence, the List of Ivy League Colleges may also include other academic institutions that are of high standards.
