Accreditation
By attending an accredited college, you are getting a quality, well-rounded education worth every penny and second spent. It’s important to understand that attending a college that is accredited versus one that is not accredited can cost you a great deal of time and money, not to mention jeopardizing your ability to obtain a job or launch your career.
When colleges apply for accreditation, they are asking for their school to be reviewed and scrutinized to ensure that they are meeting today’s standards of quality in education. The accreditation process not only looks at the individual courses, but how they make up a degree program as a whole, the quality of the instructors as well as the educational resources available to students.
The accrediting process also looks at the school’s overall performance and their projection for the future, particularly in their capacity to grow over time. Once a school as received it’s accreditation, they have successfully met the rigorous standards necessary to give you the education you deserve.
There are several types of accreditation. Many schools throughout the United States and its territories may receive accreditation from one of the regional accrediting institutions. There are 6 regional accreditation agencies, and schools qualify for one of the six depending on their location. This is one of the broadest and most common ways that a school can be accredited.
Schools may also receive national accreditation based on a particular field of study or other specified category like online education. There are dozens of national accrediting institutions recognized by the United States government. You can verify whether or not your school has a legitimate national accreditation by consulting the Council for Higher Education Association database (CHEA.org). This online reference can tell you a legitimate accrediting school from one that’s not legitimate.
As long as your school has proper accreditation you can earn your degree with confidence, knowing you’re going to receive the best education possible.
